IAGARB TATTOOS by Leslie Samson IAGARB TATTOO POLICY On January 1, 2008 the tattoo policy approved at the 2007 Annual General Meeting went into effect. The policy states that as of January 1, 2008 all animals born after January 1, 2008 that are presented for Registration, must be tattooed accordingly: The breeder's member number must be permanently tattooed in the rabbit's right ear. This number is the number assigned to each member upon joining IAGARB. It is based on state or province abbreviations plus a number. For example the first IAGARB member in the state of Michigan would be MI 1. The second would be MI 2. The breeder number is tattooed into the rabbit's RIGHT EAR. An example from a member in California is shown below: The rabbit's identification number must be permanently tattooed in the rabbit's left ear. The rabbit's tattoo number is part birth date and part running number. For example: a rabbit born in November of 2007 would be numbered ll.7. If it was the first bunny born that month, it would be 11.7.1. Some breeders prefer to keep running numbers from the first of each year. This is also acceptable. If the bunny was the 34th rabbit born in that year, its number would be 11.7.34. The rabbit's number is tattoo into the rabbit's LEFT EAR. With this system, any rabbit can be immediately identified by breeder and by age.
